| Resumo | This article shows the results of a NDVI (MODIS) time series analysis for investigating differences in Pampa biome grasslands phenology. Wavelet transformation, which has been used for analysis of meteorological images time series, was applied to a 8 years series (2000 - 2008) of MOD13 NDVI products. NDVI bands were sampled for 7 different grass types, which were defined after RADAMBRASIL vegetation map updated in 2004 by IBGE. The results demonstrated a strong seasonality of the grassland types selected for study. The peak of power observed in the scalograms occurred between 8 and 16 months, and refer to the growing season of the grassland types, which happens in the warmer months of the year, starting in the spring and extending into the autumn, with an average of 8 months. For the years of anomalously warm winters, the pattern of growth remained and the energy peaks still characterized the phenology of the Pampa biome, which is a function of temperature and humidity. The wavelet approach, while using a relatively small data set, has shown potential in identifying periods in which there were anomalies in the behavior of vegetation. Future studies will contribute for the better understanding of this ecosystem dynamics. Also, meteorological data will be combined with NDVI data still in a wavelet approach. |
